Environment Considerations

Take the following into consideration when utilizing portable mode.

Use with Virtualized Applications and the Connector

If a full install of the Fluency Direct client is already installed on a given workstation, the portable version will leverage the Connector virtual drivers already installed on the workstation. So as a rule of thumb, if Fluency Direct (versions can differ) is already installed on the workstation, the Connector will function properly. If another full Fluency Direct client install does not exist, the use of the Connector is not possible. The Connector requires specific Citrix virtual drivers to be installed with the Fluency Direct Client. Speech-to-text should still work with limited functionality in those cases and the Speech Box workflow would be recommended.

Offline Scenarios

If you are planning to use the portable install in a scenario where there is no access to the internet, you will have to authenticate your FD user(s) while connected to the internet ahead of time. Those cached credentials can then be used offline for 30 days.

Organizational Restrictions

If your organization enforces restrictions on removable media (such as USB flash drives and external hard drives), the extent to which Portable Fluency Direct will be accessible on other workstations may be limited. In those scenarios, if Portable Fluency Direct is copied from a workstation within your organization, it is likely auto-encrypted so that it may only be used on workstations within your organization (opposed to personal workstations at home, for example). Please contact your Local Administrator for assistance if your organization has these restrictions and you require using Portable Fluency Direct on workstations outside of your organization.
