Using Fluency Direct Mobile Keyboard

You can dictate directly into Fluency Direct Mobile Keyboard or you can open any app on your iPhone, such as Notes or Safari and navigate to a text field where you can type or dictate.

When dictating into FD Mobile Keyboard, you just click the record button to dictate and your text will appear as you speak. You can use the Cut Text button in the top toolbar to cut your dictation to the clipboard and then paste it into an application of your choice.

To use the FD Mobile Keyboard in another application, open the application then tap the Globe icon at the bottom left of your screen, Your keyboard will switch to Fluency Direct. If you have more than 2 keyboards enabled on your iPhone, you may get a pop-up and you have to select the Fluency Direct option.

Once you have activated your Fluency Direct Mobile Keyboard, you are ready to begin dictating.

Recording

  • Press the microphone bar to start recording your dictation.  The microphone will display as green, indicating that it is recording. The green bar will indicate your speaking volume as you dictate.

    Note

    Every time you start recording, a screen will appear saying "preparing Fluency Direct." This is expected behavior.

  • Press the green microphone button to end recording. 

Dictation

  • Free text dictation as well as text-only commands (personal or group level) – such as “insert normal exam” – are supported

  • Navigational or built-in editing commands – such as “select patient” – are not supported

Typing

  • Free typing is improved by auto-correct and auto-capitalization, which is defaulted ON in the settings
